Experimental Tom Davis shots

This shot is composed of two digital negs that I photoshopped together. Separately they are both very good images as well, but I wanted to have fun with Photoshop. It was a very long exposure....hence the closing of the elevator door within the shot. Which I find the most fascinating... I love the ghosting effect.

I also thought these were very interesting portrait shots as well. Definitely not your typical work and I am very fond of the very "high flash candid" shot I did in the elevator.

Tom Davis Jazz Guitarist

I did some promotional shots for Tom Davis ( a local jazz guitarist here in town....and also my brother). I did them both in Color and in B&W. I favor the B&W shots the most...but I am not too sure and I'm hoping for some input on which ones look the best. We went on top of a parking garage where it was very windy and very cold, but it definitely helped get my creative side back. I hope to do more photographs like this in the near future. I enjoy this type of portrait/fashion work.

The first two are my favorite. General composition I feel is very well.

I'm really hoping to start this into a certain style I can delve into for a while. I just need some volunteers to help by my models. Anyone up for it? Also Which ones do you enjoy more? THe color or B&W?

Lead the Way

So after a very long hiatus of posting anything....here is a photograph from a shoot the other night I did with Tom Davis (aka..my brother). I'll be putting those photos up very soon, but I figured I would put this one up right now to show that I haven't completely stopped photographing outside of work.
I have found myself with very limited time, and when I do have free time I see myself spending it in every way I probably shouldn't..... staying up till really late, going out to eat, spending every moment I can with my friends and also Tomi. I find myself wanting to go look at stores and just keep as busy as possible with things not pertaining to photography. For this I find myself very regretful and knowing that I should keep shooting, but alas...what can I say? I am dreadfully tired of staring at photos after an 8-5 of nothing but shoot for maybe 2-3hrs total and then rest edit. GAH!

Even though it may sound as an excuse (I don't know if I have already written this) but my camera Err. 99ed me. Which for Canon either means your lens is not connecting correctly OR your shutter is going to give you the big middle finger and die on you. Luckily for me it was my shutter. Notice my sarcasm??? But yes, I had to have my camera sent in for about a month so it could be totally rebuilt and now it is back in my loving hands and although Best Buy did fix it without incident......it is away from BestBuy thank god! I know I have a warranty with them, but boy I do not trust them as far as I can throw 'em. Which as we all know isn't very far.

Anywho, more photos to come very soon I promise.

Promise
Promise
Promise.

Times Like These

There are moments that you can't ever capture again. Ones that are rare and whenever they are happening you don't have the ability to capture them fully. I was lucky enough to grab this shot. The daughter of the bride was playing on the merry-go-round during the reception and they wanted me to come play with them. Luckily I had my camera and really just saw this wonderful opportunity when I had it. Its rare that you get such unguarded happiness in a shot. Not only that. But I just love the composition, the color and the greatness of the fact that I even captured nats in the air. Damn.

P.S: So yeah..............there are more wedding photographs on my website: www.laurenkdavisphotography.dphoto.com. Gosai Mas.

Cook&Nicholas Wedding Part 1

So I'm an extremely busy lady and I do apologize for the delay of these photographs. I'm only going to post a few on here for now, but that is only because it is so late. If I didn't work every day these would have been up SO much fast. Geeze la weeze. It was a beautiful wedding on September 12, 2009 between Beth Nicholas and Troy Cook in Evansville, IN, and I have many more photographs that document it. Well, enjoy for now! More later I promise!

Submarines Are Pretty Important too

So I know I haven't posted anything at all in a LONG time. Hell, whenever I see the little "blog" button in my bookmarks I instantly feel guilty. Now thats saying something. It isn't like I don't have photographs to put up, in fact, I have a great shoot I did with my sister just recently and hopefully, I plan on shooting some more really soon.

In all honesty, I have been super duper busy as of late. At the beginning of August my mom and sister came down, which resulted in a lovely (almost a whole week) stay and also a great trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a chance to "drive" a Submarine. Yeah, thats right....a a real frickin' Submarine docked in Lake Erie that is apparently still fully functional since there were guys working on the engines in there. YIKES! And to think I was busy playing with the engine switches lol. But really, then after there stay I went home and relaxed in a pool for around three days. It was great. Absolutely great and I didn't take any photographs because I was too busy teaching my sister how to twirl a flag. Then here is the big kicker after that........

I GOT A NEW JOB! YAY!

I still work at WhiteHouse-BlackMarket, but now I am the Photography/Photography Intern (really I'm the photographer but I am only hired for so many months...I think that is why they call it an internship). at the Buckeye Corner. I photograph everything from t-shirts and apparel to dog collars, mugs, and a really nice frosted glass that I made happen like nobody's business. So yeah, I've been busy since I just started that this past monday. I work 8-5 MF not to mention I'm still working at WHBM. In fact, I have leave in like fifteen minutes to go to work.

I just wanted to let you know that I am still working on things and I generally do hope that I put work up soon. Plus, does anyone even want to start the "Your Name Here" project? Because i sure the hell do.

Soft Focus Portrait

The first of many photographs that I took at Comfest this year. Luckily I was able to take some really good portraits of people, but while I'm editing down which ones I like the most I thought I would throw one up on the net for everyone to see.

Opera Columbus BBQ Party 6-24-09

There are a ton of photos that I do like from this great opportunity, but for this first post I just am putting my absolute favorites. Not saying I don't like the others, but these ones resinate with me more.

Thank you again to Opera Columbus (especially Jeryl Simons) for inviting me to their special event and letting me take photographs of them while they kick off their brand new season of "Go Wild for the Opera" at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium!!!
